How much are you paying your programmers? What are their primary duties? Who supervises the programmers – plant mgr, CAD, etc..?

Programmers are around $15/hr in VA market. Template & CAD/programmers work for one person, who reports to me.

Where we are currently getting great gains in efficiency, is also creating some problems…..carving the time out, and the follow -up to truly focus on material yield when programming, as it may affect seaming. The advanced course is to take that person and look at future jobs in the same material that have been converted to a sales order, but not templated, and strategically utilize rock with future job in mind, then create a remnant, and allocate to that future job.

That person must work with other department, including sales (expectations), production (shuffling the order of jobs), inventory control (allocated slab swap).

We are providing incentive for that activity by baselining the waste factor for stock materials, then paying on the ‘gain-share’ for improvement. Our SPS software is capable of providing all the above now.

Programmers also kerf out for sawjet, produce customer drawings, and program the CNC’s on the fly to maximize table utilization (estimate 20% gain in efficiency over processing by the job on a CNC cycle).

Better yet, just fucking call me……………. 804 310-9156
